These were the very poor, the blind, the crippled, the sick, the lame, and the criminal element. Nebuchadnezzar deported only the best and brightest of the land of Judah back to Babylon. He didn’t need to bring more problems to his own society.

In the 32nd Chapter of Jeremiah's prophecy, we find that what got him in prison was his insistence that Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, would conquer Jerusalem. Zedekiah, the king of Judah, didn't like that. While in prison, Jeremiah's cousin, Hanameel, offers the prophet the right to purchase a piece of land in Anathoth.
