The Revelation of Jesus Christ - Chapter 3:14-22
The church at Laodicea. This church, the seventh of Jesus' seven letters to the seven churches, is symbolic of the apostate church. The apostate church began in Paul's day, and has gained momentum through the ages. Today, the apostate church is very prominent. Apostasy: defined as "the act of rebelling against, forsaking, abandoning, or falling away from what one has believed." In the Greek, the word is 'apostasia'. Used in military terms, it refers to desertion. Paul, in 2nd Thessalonians Chapter 2, addressed the church at Thessalonica who had been deceived into believing that the "Day of the Lord" had already come.
