Resurrection Day 2009 - Luke 23:32-43

The term for the day is not 'Easter', but Resurrection Day.  The day comes complete with baskets and cellophane grass and chocolate bunnies and colored eggs, all of which have absolutely nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The term 'Easter' itself refers to the pagan roots of the holiday.  The name comes from the Babylonian goddess, Ishtar (also Astarte).  It was the pagan preoccupation with fertility that linked the rabbit's breeding habits with the 'golden egg of Astarte'.
