Colosse was a city in the Roman province of Asia (western Turkey today), situated in the Lycus River Valley about 100 miles east of Ephesus.  Paul wrote this short Epislte while he was in prison, one of four of his "prison episltes", the others being Philippians, Ephesians and Philemon.  False teachings had taken root in Colosse, and Paul writes to set things straight.
