The Book of Ruth - Chapter 2

Ruth was a Moabite.  So, who are the Moabites?  When Lot and his family were rescued from Soddom by the angels, they left and went to the mountains.  Lot's wife looked back, and was turned to a pillar of salt.  Lot's two daughters reasoned among themselves that the whole world must have been destroyed, so they contrived to have children by their father in order to carry on the name.  The son of one of the daughters was named Moab (the Moabites), the other Ben-Ammi (the Ammonites).  The Moabites were enemies of Israel.
